Steve McQueen’s Harley for sale at Las Vegas auction
Famous Hollywood actor Steve McQueen’s 1912 Harley-Davidson X8E Big Twin is set to be auctioned at the Bonham’s Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction at the end of the month.
The X8E was Harley-Davidson’s top of the range model back in 1912, and was one of the first to offer all-chain drive. Back then the bike was sold for $310, and features an engine capacity of 60ci while providing 8 hp. In addition, the bike still carries its original cylinders and matching barrel stampings.
The bike comes with an authenticity certificate which was signed by Terry and Chad McQueen when sold at the Steve McQueen estate auction in 1984. Surprisingly, the motorcycle is still in running condition. However, the wheel rims have been upgraded to allow safe riding, and a headlamp has been added on to the front for taking part in vintage rallies. It has been said that McQueen rode this motorcycle in at least one pre-1916 event.
The Harley can be previewed on Wednesday 25th January 2017 and will be up for auction on the Thursday 26th at 11am in Las Vegas, Lot 143.
