Shakey signs a two-year deal with PBM Be Wiser Ducati
Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, reigning MCE British Superbike champion has signed a brand new two-year contract to remain with PBM and Be Wiser Ducati.
It was only several weeks ago that Shakey took the 2016 championship title for British Superbikes, and after five titles, 96 podium finishes and 77 racing triumphs, PBM decided it was essential that he remained on the team for slightly longer period.
When asked about the two-year deal, Shakey responded,
“I think this announcement is the icing on the cake of what’s been another great year. It’s an absolute show of commitment between Paul Bird and myself, a team second to none, as we know each other so well. Whilst this is a ground breaking deal in British Superbikes with it being a multi-year appointment, it’s literally two mates with a desire to win securing their future together. I’m personally feeling remarkably proud of everything we achieved not only this year but in all the years I’ve ridden for Paul. He’s played such a massive part in my success and together we now have another shot at two titles and who knows how many more. I’ll work as hard as possible to try to achieve that goal to repay the faith which Paul has once again shown in our partnership”
What’s strange is that, it is very uncommon for a team to offer a contract of longer than one year to a rider and it is the first time in over 20 years that Paul Bird Motorsport have offered this to a rider.
However, as the most successful British Superbike rider, we’re surprised he wasn’t offered it sooner.
