Moto GP: Season Opener
The MotoGP season opener was a good one which didn’t disappoint. Of course, there was no surprise that Maverick Viñales delivered an exceptional performance taking race victory in the introductory round of the championship.
Viñales proved time and time again throughout the pre-season tests that he was worthy of keeping top position, with many other riders struggling to keep up with the Spaniard. Although this was the case at the pre-season tests, Viñales who started in pole position, initially made a slow start and managed to catch up at the last lap to take victory.
It was Yamaha Tech 3 rookie Johann Zarco who took the lead for part of the race, with Mark Marquez, Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso battling behind him. However, after the sixth lap, Zarco crashed out of the lead after taking too many aggressive turns and becoming a little too confident.
At this point, both Rossi and Viñales had managed to catch up, with Viñales taking the top position at the final lap.
The second spot was taken by Dovizioso, who was only 0.461 seconds behind Viñales. Valentino Rossi came in third place, while Repsol Honda teammates Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa took 4th and 5th positions.
Finishing off the top 10 positions was Aleix Espargaro, Scott Redding, Jack Miller and rookies Alex Rins and Jonas Folger, who we still think could be one to watch.
An exciting opening round overall.
