Honda team up with Hitachi to develop electric vehicle motors
It was announced yesterday, that both Honda Motor Co. and Hitachi Automotive Systems Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that states they will be forming a joint company to develop and produce motors for electric vehicles.
Hitachi are well known for their development of electric vehicle motors, and Honda are keen to expand their electric vehicle production, as well as enhance their technological capabilities, so it was no wonder the two firms thought a joint venture would be a good move.
It seems that now would be the best time to establish this new venture, due to the significant increase in electric vehicles sales, as environmental issues become greater and more people become aware of the damage to the planet.
The new business which will be based in Japan will also have subsidiaries in America and China, where each will provide sales and manufacturing functions. Moreover, it is hoped that the deal will be finalised in March this year, so that the new firm can begin planning.
We can only assume that the new business will be focusing mainly on cars. However, we can only hope that we will eventually see some electric bikes.
