Guy Martin out of the Southern 100 this week
A couple of days ago, it was revealed that Guy Martin would not be taking part in this year’s Southern 100. The news doesn’t come as a surprise after Martin was forced to withdraw from the Isle of Man TT last month after various complications with his Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR during practice races and qualifiers.
It has been said that Martin has chosen to sit out of this week’s race as both he and the team feels that the Fireblade requires further testing and don’t want to risk more injuries, which is understandable. The CBR1000RR hasn’t been kind to Guy Martin or John McGuinness this year, after McGuinness was also forced to withdraw from the Isle of Man TT after suffering several bad injuries at the North West 200. The team are keen to spend the time continuing to work on improving the bike and resolving the technical problems before taking the bike back out.
We imagine Martin is pretty gutted to be missing this week’s races, after proving to be successful the last few years in the solo championship. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
The Southern 100 began last night with practice and qualifying rounds, and will continue tonight with two races, then another four tomorrow and around nine on Thursday. It’ll be a busy week ahead for competitors including Michael and William Dunlop, and Dean Harrison.
