Goodyear’s smart tyre of the future

We’ve already shown you one of the great displays from McLaren at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and there’s still plenty more amazing designs and concepts to show you. However, we thought we would start with Goodyear’s incredible smart tyre of the future.

Now, when you first take a look at the 3D prototype from Goodyear, you wouldn’t think they were displaying a tyre, so when it first caught our eye, we knew we had to dig deep and check out more information.

Firstly, as you can see, the design is spherical and the idea is that the tyre will collect information about the surrounding environment – including road surfaces, traffic and other objects which might be a hazard, through various sensors that will share this data with the driver. Moreover, because the design is spherical, it means that there are no limitations with regards to movement, so we would love to see the type of maneuvers the vehicle will be able to carry out.

Interestingly, Goodyear claim that the tyres will be connected to the vehicle through electromagnetics, basically meaning they won’t be connected at all and the vehicle will just float above. We’re not so sure how that will go, but we like the sound of it.

We’ve linked a video from Goodyear below which highlights some more information about the amazing concept. Check it out and let us know what you think. #MOBbikers
