Northern Irish racer Eugene Laverty is leaving MotoGP and will be returning to the World Superbike Championship 2017. Laverty failed to receive a 2016 Ducati motorbike for his next season but is confident that he will be using a factory Aprilia with Shaun Muir Racing.

He is focused on winning the world Superbike Championship in 2017 as he also stated:

Ministry Of Bikes - Eugene Laverty - “There are a lot of good riders at the moment and there’ll be even more next year with Stefan Bradl arriving from MotoGP, and me. It will be really competitive. Of course, Jonathan Rea is the reigning world champion and on course to defend his crown, and it will be difficult to beat him. But a lot of riders are motivated to defeat him. I’m coming back with one goal: to be world champion.”

His rival, World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea was pleasantly surprised to hear his return.

Ministry Of Bikes - Jonathan Rea - "When he left the championship to go to MotoGP he was a top rider, but it was clear that he was not on a competitive bike.He has really found his feet in MotoGP this season and will be a huge loss to that paddock, but his natural ability and work ethic will no doubt see him back fighting for a championship next year."
