Could Lightning Motorcycles produce a bike that travels 500 miles on one charge?
Head of Lightning Motorcycles, Richard Hatfield has recently stated that he would like to set a new record by producing an electric bike which can travel 500 miles on just one charge. Specifically, being able to run between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
I mean, I suppose it could be possible, and we don’t mean to be negative or anything. However, the current mileage travelled by an electric vehicle in one charge is just over 300 miles, which is made by Tesla. Even though Lightning Motorcycles have, and continue to reach land-speed records, we do have our doubts.
When questioned about his hopes for the firm, Richard stated that:
“We see ourselves as following in the footsteps of Tesla, and accomplishing the San Francisco to Los Angeles run would show that range anxiety is becoming a thing of the past”.
Lightning Motorcycles have teamed up with the Battery Innovation Centre in Indiana to test and develop batteries and energy storage systems which are both safe and reliable to help reach their goals, and the president of the company, David Roberts, has every belief that the 500-mile ride is achievable.
We like to hope that the firm will be able to make this happen. However, we aren’t expecting anything anytime soon.
